The Restitution Series is a Neo Surrealist depiction of the construction of female identity. On the surface, the female subjects allude to a whimsical freedom and a yearning for the sixties. While reminiscent of an earlier time, there is a rebellious spark cast within each piece. Beyond the superficial entity, an investigation persists of the construction of female identity and the objectification of the male-gaze. The subjects are not dreamy or whimsical. Beyond this facade, there is a refusal to adhere to gentle femininity and the social constructs of society. The females depicted are an entity of their own and do not rely on the confines of female identity and sexuality. The Restitution Series fights against the connotations of how women should be and presents an eminent distain for social confines in an exposing and raw manner.
